Chrome Extension Privacy
This page explains how the ItsaPDF — Private PDF Tools Chrome extension handles your files and data. It's written to match exactly what the extension does — not what it might do someday. It covers the extension only; for the itsapdf.com website, see our Privacy Policy.
Your files
The PDFs and images you select in the extension's Merge, Split, Rotate, Delete Pages, and Images to PDF tools are processed entirely locally, inside the popup, using a PDF library bundled into the extension at build time. File contents are never uploaded, and never sent to any server — the extension has no upload endpoint and no backend that receives file content. Filenames are not collected or transmitted either; a downloaded file's name is used only to write the file to your device.
What's stored, and where
The extension uses your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) — never synced to a Google account or any server — to remember three things:
- which popup tab and tool you last had open,
- your favorited tools, and
- a short list of recently opened tools.
Favorites and recent tools are stored only as a tool identifier (e.g. "merge-pdf") and a timestamp — never a filename, file content, or the URL of a page you visited.
The current tab
When you open the popup, the extension checks whether the page you're currently on is a PDF (by its URL ending in.pdf) so it can show a short "this tab has a PDF open" hint. It does not read the page's content, and it does not fetch, download, or import that PDF automatically — you still have to explicitly choose a file in a tool yourself. That URL is never written to storage and is discarded as soon as the check is done. The extension does not collect your browsing history.
Website links and context menus
Tools the popup doesn't handle standalone — and the extension's right-click menu shortcuts — open the matching page on itsapdf.com in a new browser tab. No file data, filename, or page content is ever attached to those links.
Analytics
The extension itself has no analytics, no telemetry, and no tracking of any kind — nothing about your extension usage is collected or transmitted anywhere. The itsapdf.com website has its own, separate, consent-gated analytics (see our Privacy Policy andCookie Settings), which only applies when you're browsing the website in a normal tab — it is entirely independent of the extension and never sees anything about how you use the popup.
We don't sell or share your data
No data from the extension — file contents, filenames, favorites, recent tools, or the current-tab PDF check — is sold, rented, or transferred to any third party, for advertising or any other purpose. Nothing collected by the extension leaves your device at all, so there is nothing to share in the first place.
Permissions
The extension requests three permissions: storage (for the local data described above),contextMenus (for the right-click shortcuts described above), and activeTab (for the current-tab PDF hint described above). It requests no host permissions and runs no scripts on any page you visit.
Clearing extension data
To clear everything the extension has stored locally (your favorites, recent tools, and last-open tab/tool), remove the extension: open chrome://extensions, find ItsaPDF — Private PDF Tools, and select Remove. Chrome deletes its local storage automatically when an extension is removed. Reinstalling starts you with a clean slate.
Changes to this policy
If the extension introduces analytics, remote processing, or any feature that changes how data is handled, this page will be updated to reflect that before the change ships.
